All
Polynesians
Practice
the making and giving of lei.
From early times, Hawaiians
have fashioned lei from shells,
seeds, bone, and feathers and
from more temporary materials
such as leaves, vines, and a
few indigenous flowers. Over
the years, newcomers to the
islands introduced many new
species of flowers that are
now enjoyed by lei makers, but
techniques of fashioning lei
have remained typically Hawaiian.
In
Early Hawaii
The
lei was symbolic of esteem
for gods, loved ones, and
oneself. Remarkably diverse
and spectacular lei are made
and given for marriages, birthdays,
lu'aus, and funerals. The
Hawaii State Legislature opens
with thousands of lei-bedecked
representatives, senators
and well wishers.
Leis
are also given on informal
occasions to express gratitude
or warmth of friendship.
The
Double Dendrobium
Is
a traditional favorite created
from the Dendrobium Orchid blossom.
The exotic appearance of the
orchid captures the essence
of the islands, and is a preferred
lei for most occasions. We are
proud to offer the most popular
Dendrobium blossom colors: dark
purple, lavender and white.
Sewn in the traditional style,
this lei is crafted by using
as many as 125 of the freshest
Dendrobium blossoms of your
choice.
The Freshness
Of
the Dendrobium Orchids is warranted
by hand picking the blossoms
usually early in the mornings.
With just a hint of fragrance
common to most orchids, this
lei could last up to two weeks
with the proper care.
To
maintain freshness, all flowers
are freshly cut and shipped
via FedEx.
