The Calla Lili belongs to the Araceae family, most members of which have sword-shaped
leaves and colorful spathes or bracts, often mistaken for the flowers. Cousins
of the calla include the Jack-in-the-Pulpit, the skunk cabbage, the sweet flag
and the caladium.
The leaves of the calla, which are formed at the end of celery-like stalks,
are heart-shaped and have a rich, dark green color that may be speckled. The
flowering stems rise above the foliage.
